I don't know where I've been for 57 years that I've never heard of wool coasters. Maybe I've seen "fabric" coasters but immediately dismissed them because I just knew they'd soak through onto the surface of furniture. I have an OCD issue with keeping things pristine and coasters are on every flat surface in my house. I have had antique pieces ruined because of sweating soda cans (my sister is still in trouble!). Please tell me how I can trust that heat or moisture will not wick its way through and come out the bottom of this wool coaster? To have a quiet working cushioned stylish colored coaster would be a dream come true ♥ I've also had one wool sweater in my life and it set my skin on fire even with a shirt underneath. Maybe that is what's blocking my understanding, too.: Hi Tracy! We chose Merino wool felt for coasters due to the durability and functionality of the material. Merino wool felt can absorb up to 30% moisture and still feel dry to the touch. First, our felt quickly absorbs moisture away from the surface and into the body of the felt. Then, through a natural process called wicking, moisture is continuously drawn outward along the fibers where it turns to vapor in the tiny air spaces created in the felting process. From there is a short trip back to the surface where it evaporates away. Our coasters do a fine job protecting surfaces, however, if you are concerned about antique furniture, we suggest testing our coasters on another surface first.
