Gathering Around the Table
Bungkus Bagus is an LA-based Balinese food pop-up serving delicious food that melds their Balinese heritage and California roots. We visited them at their Glendale home where they shared more about how they gather around the table with the perfect combination of elegance and whimsy.
How do you create a meaningful gathering around the table?
We always start a meal by pausing to acknowledge why we’ve gathered - a recognition of good friendship, good food, and spirit. A meaningful atmosphere is one that includes family heirlooms, such as the handwoven baskets from Bali that our mom collected while she lived there, and that we have also brought back to LA over the years.
Creating a Memorable Experience
We are a family of musicians - everyone played something growing up - so we're lovers of the "dinner and a show" tradition. So much so that now, when we host dinner parties, our third sister Tika will fire dance at the end to entertain our guests. Music has been a beautiful anchor and throughline throughout our lives and especially in our sisterhood. Our Kawai baby grand is an heirloom from our Grandma, and the piano that we all took lessons on as kids.
